Hi there. My name is Rita. I am a writer and author.
I created my very first book in elementary school. As a class project, I wrote a short book and the teacher helped me to create two hard covers out of cardboard and contact paper to bind the book. It was called, The Girl Who Went to Beachland. I still have that book today.
Throughout high school and college, I fell in love with writing again as a creative outlet. My first “official” independently published book was a collection of poems that I shared at many spoken-word events in the Durham/Raleigh area and in Baltimore. I eventually branched out to host my own annual poetry events in April for National Poetry Month.
I attended undergrad for Business and Professional Writing and graduate school for Publishing. My business and publishing degrees are tools that propel me forward; to continue to write and create but mostly I do it for the love of the craft.
I am a non-fiction author and a novelist (pseudonym).
I have a passion for literacy and mental health which led me to become Founder and Creative Director of Bewell Publishing.
